How Precious Pickin' Came to Be: The True Story
Meet Precious, my English Bulldog. She's got the face of an angel and the bathroom schedule of a Swiss train conductor. Every day at 7 AM and 6 PM, like clockwork, she'd waddle out to the backyard and handle her business with the dignity only a bulldog can muster.
For months, I was the perfect dog parent. Scooper in hand, I'd follow her around like a royal attendant, cleaning up immediately. Life was good, the yard was pristine, and Precious approved of the arrangement.
Then life happened.
Work got crazy. Social life picked up. Suddenly I was telling myself, "I'll get it tomorrow morning." Then tomorrow became next weekend. Next weekend became "when I have time." Meanwhile, Precious kept her schedule because, well, she's a bulldog and they don't negotiate.
The Reckoning
After three weeks of "I'll get to it later," I finally stepped into my backyard and nearly fainted. It looked like a minefield designed by someone with a very twisted sense of humor. Precious had been busy, and she'd been thorough.
I stood there with my little pooper scooper, staring at what could only be described as Mount Vesuvius of dog waste, and thought, "This is going to take forever."
Two hours later, drenched in sweat and questioning my life choices, I finally finished. As I dragged myself inside, exhausted and defeated, Precious looked up at me with those big bulldog eyes as if to say, "Thanks, human. Same time tomorrow?"
The Lightbulb Moment
That's when it hit me like a ton of bricks (or a ton of... well, you get the idea).
If I, a responsible dog owner, could let things get this out of hand, how many other busy pet parents were dealing with the same problem? How many people were avoiding their backyards, making excuses to skip barbecues, or having awkward conversations with neighbors?
I looked at Precious, who was now snoring contentedly on her favorite couch, completely oblivious to the entrepreneurial epiphany she'd just inspired.
The Birth of a Business
And that's how Precious Pickin' was born – from one very busy dog owner's moment of reckoning and one very regular English Bulldog's unwavering commitment to her daily routine.
The best part? I named the business after the dog who created the problem in the first place. Precious doesn't seem to mind the fame. She just keeps her schedule and lets me handle the business side of things.
Now, instead of dreading cleanup day, I help other pet parents avoid their own Mount Vesuvius moments. And Precious? She's basically the company mascot, though she's never actually helped with a single pickup. Typical bulldog – all the credit, none of the work.
Sometimes the best business ideas come from the messiest situations. Literally.
